State of Oregon’s Department of Justice seeks two Assistant Attorneys General in the Consumer Protection Unit, based in Salem with hybrid remote options. The ideal candidate has active Oregon Bar status or eligibility to waive in, at least two years of civil litigation or consumer protection experience,

Qualifications

• Active membership in good standing with the Oregon State Bar or clear eligibility to waive into the Oregon Bar at the time of application.
• At least two years of recent civil litigation or consumer protection experience.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage a caseload and move cases forward through all phases of litigation or resolution.
• Superior writing and oral advocacy skills, excellent analytical skills, and ability to think creatively about complex legal problems.
• Strong work ethic and a demonstrated commitment to public service.
• Willingness and ability to occasionally travel, which may include overnight stays.
• Experience handling state or federal civil enforcement actions, consumer class actions, or other complex consumer law claims.
• Experience with electronic discovery.
• Interest in data analytics and capacity to learn new technologies and use new technical tools to advance investigations.
• Experience with multi-party settlement negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and litigate violations of consumer protection laws, including deceptive, unfair, and unconscionable business practices.
• Represent the State in all phases of civil investigations and litigation in state and federal court, including case development, discovery, motions, trials, and settlements.
• Collaborate with enforcement partners from other states to address trending issues regionally or nationally.
• May assist other Economic Justice Section matters (antitrust, privacy, or false claims) as needed.
• Develop case strategy, plan next steps, anticipate obstacles, and drive cases forward to trial or resolution.
