Job summary

Arkansas Attorney General’s Office, Special Litigation Section, is seeking an Assistant Attorney General to defend Arkansas laws in complex constitutional and administrative litigation. The role offers substantial responsibility from day one, including brief writing and hearings, with mentoring from experienced trial and appellate attorneys.

You will work with state agencies and elected officials on statewide matters, supporting appeals before the Arkansas Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit,

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Arkansas law license or ability to obtain one promptly.
  • Clerkship or litigation experience involving constitutional or federal matters preferred.
  • Exceptional legal writing, research, and oral-advocacy skills.
  • Outstanding academic record.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Argue motions before trial courts and participate in important trials.
  • Research and draft persuasive motions and briefs.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests.
  • Advise and consult with other divisions on important legal issues and strategic considerations.
  • Counsel and collaborate with state agencies, boards, commissions, and elected officials on complex legal issues, litigation strategy, and matters of statewide importance.
  • Assist with appeals before the Arkansas Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit.
