Job summary

The State of South Carolina's Securities and Money Services Sections seeks an Assistant Attorney General to represent the division in investigations and proceedings, draft pleadings, negotiate resolutions, and advocate in trials and appeals.

Requirements include a Juris Doctorate, active SC Bar membership, and at least five years of practice, with travel as needed. Excellent benefits include health, dental, life insurance, retirement, and paid leave.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the Securities and Money Services Sections in investigative stages of securities and money services cases.
  • Following the investigation, makes recommendations regarding resolution of assigned cases.
  • Prepares pleadings related to assigned cases.
  • Negotiates assigned cases successfully.
  • Represents in trial, hearing, and appellate phases of assigned cases.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Division Director or the Attorney General.

About Securities

Under limited supervision, performs professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials. Assigned to the Securities Section as Assistant Attorney General.

  • Represents the Securities and Money Services Sections in the investigative stages of securities and money services cases.
  • Following the investigation, make recommendations regarding the appropriate resolution of assigned cases.
  • Prepares pleadings related to assigned cases.
  • Successfully negotiates assigned cases.
  • Represent the Securities and Money Services Sections in the trial or hearing and appellate phases of assigned cases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Division Director or the Attorney General.

Necessary Requirement

Additional Requirements
  • Position may be required to travel to court and transport files.
  • Some travel is required.
  • Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Knowledge of general case, statutory, and common law.
  • Knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of guidance.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws in court decisions.
  • Ability to analyze facts, evidence, and legal instruments.
  • Ability to express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically.
  • Ability to plan and direct the activities of a legal staff.
