Join the SC Attorney General’s Office - General and Special Prosecution Team

Prosecutors in this team have the opportunity to travel statewide and handle a diverse array of cases, including drug offenses, homicides, hit and runs, and human trafficking. You'll collaborate with law enforcement agencies, defense attorneys, and appear before judges across South Carolina. This role offers growth in litigation skills and involvement in impactful legislation. Recent notable cases include:

  • State v. John Blauvelt, featured on 48 Hours
  • First human trafficking guilty trial verdict
  • Guilty verdict in a 35-year-old no-body homicide cold case
  • Murder conviction in Spartanburg County
  • Guilty plea in a manslaughter case after locating the missing body

The role involves performing legal work with limited supervision for the State and its subdivisions, primarily as an Assistant Attorney General within the Criminal Division's General and Special Prosecution Unit.

  1. Case Intake and Evaluation: Assist in the initial stages of case referral and acceptance.
  2. Case Management and Progression: Advance cases through the judicial system appropriately.
  3. Case Disposition: Seek just resolutions for all cases.
  4. Docket Management: Manage caseloads and provide relevant reporting information.
  5. Miscellaneous Matters: Handle various tasks, including attending and conducting training sessions.

  • Overnight travel may be required
  • Travel and transporting files may be necessary
  • Must be organized and capable of working independently to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills required
  • Criminal court experience is essential
