Assistant Athletic Trainer - St Olaf College

Position Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Department: Athletics – Sports Medicine.
Classification: Exempt.
FTE: 1.0.
Work Schedule: This position is a full-time position that serves the athletic department.It requires a flexible work schedule; nights and weekends are necessary, and traveling with teams is required.
Salary Range: $48,000 - $50,000.

  • Evaluate, diagnose, rehabilitate, and document injuries and medical conditions.
    • On-site care and management of injuries and illnesses to multiple teams that will include football.
    • Assess risk of injury and self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion to student-athletes and staff.
    • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized
      therapeutic rehabilitation for each patient.
    • Provide sport-specific accommodation recommendations for student-athletes
      with restrictions or limitations.
    • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine
      standard operating procedures.
    • Provide high-quality and appropriate healthcare when hosting home events
      and when traveling with team(s).
  • Communicate with student-athletes, coaches, support staff, faculty, and administration.
    • Communicate with coaching staff in the form of written and oral communication.
    • Coordinate and work closely with the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
    • Communicate and coordinate care with physicians and other healthcare
      providers.
    • Function as a positive and supportive point of contact for student-athletes,
      coaches, parents, and staff.
  • Assist and support the sports medicine team with healthcare administration.
    • Maintain records and prepare administrative reports as required by the college,
      NCAA, MIAC, OSHA, and sports medicine staff.
    • Maintain an understanding of secondary insurances with timely submission.
    • Assist with management of hosting MIAC and NCAA events.
    • Actively attend MIAC, NATA, and other committee meetings to continue to
      practice evidence-based medicine.
    • Maintain cleanliness of athletic training facility and private offices.
    • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and
      points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
    • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance
      management cycle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Reports to the Director of Athletics.
  • This position supervises student workers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training. Certification through the Board of Certification in Athletic Training.Eligible for Minnesota Athletic Trainer licensure. CPR, AED, and bloodborne pathogens certification. NPI number or in the process of getting one. Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College’s driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Experience: Master’s Degree in a field related to Sports Medicine.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: 1+ years of experience within Sports Medicine as a licensed/registered Athletic Trainer.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience working independently within Sports Medicine; experience working in the sport of football; experience with supervising Sports Medicine Assistants or equivalent.
