Job summary

Virginia State University is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer to create a safe environment for student athletes and support the athletic program. The role requires a bachelor’s degree, NATA ATC certification, CPR/AED, and a Virginia driver’s license with the ability to drive state vehicles.

Incumbents should be prepared for evenings and weekends, travel as needed, and deliver quality care and instruction in a team setting within the CIAA athletics framework.

Qualifications

• Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college.
• Knowledge of first aid, medical attention, rehab for student-athletes.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Ability to react calmly in emergencies.
• Must work in a diverse team and attract student-athletes to VSU.
• Must drive a state vehicle to transport student-athletes.
• Virginia Driver’s License within 60 days of hire with acceptable driving record.
• Evenings, weekends, and travel may be required.
• Computer literacy required.
• Maintain NATA ATC certification.
• Maintain CPR/AED certification.
• Licensed by the Board of Medicine.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive, healthy, safe environment for student athletes.
• Abide by VSU and athletic associations’ rules and regulations.
• Assist in emergencies as directed by leadership.
• Provide good customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
• Serve as the Assistant Athletic Trainer within the athletic program.
