Job summary

The University of Lynchburg invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor positions in Psychological Science. Beginning in 2027-28, we seek colleagues committed to teaching excellence and scholarship with an open area of specialization, preferably in clinical/counseling and social/cognitive psychology.

The roles include teaching a mix of introductory and upper-level courses, a typical load of four courses per semester, and opportunities to pursue internal travel,

Qualifications

• PhD or PsyD in Psychology by August 2027.
• Open area of specialization but expertise in clinical/counseling and social/cognitive psychology is preferred.
• Previous undergraduate teaching experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with quantitative research methodologies.
• A primary interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate research at a liberal arts institution is required.

Responsibilities

• Teaching a combination of introductory and upper-level courses with four courses per semester.
• Collaborating with colleagues on curriculum development, undergraduate advising, and university committee service.
• Supervising student research projects and engaging in scholarly activity.

Assistant or Associate Professor in Psychological Science

The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for two tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor positions in Psychological Science beginning in the 2027-28 academic year. We seek colleagues with a strong commitment to teaching excellence and scholarship. Area of specialization is open, but we prefer candidates with expertise in clinical/counseling and social/cognitive psychology.

Candidates will have the opportunity to take advantage of resources provided by the Teaching and Learning Center and the Percy Wootton Research Center and will be eligible to apply for internal funds to support travel, scholarly work, faculty-student research, and professional development.

Specific Job Duties:

• Teaching a combination of introductory and upper-level courses. Courses in the regular rotation include introductory psychology, research design and analysis, senior capstone, and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.
• Typical teaching load is four courses per semester.
• Collaboration with colleagues on curriculum development, undergraduate academic advising, and service on University committees.
• Supervising student research projects and engaging in scholarly activity.

Teaching Load:

The normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester.
