Job description

Primary Purpose Of Position

Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in food and nutritional sciences; developing a research program in food and nutrition and securing external grants; advising graduate and undergraduate students, participating in curriculum development; collaborating with faculty on research and creative scholarship activities; serving on departmental, college and university committees and participating in other academic functions.

Tenure & Appointment

This is a 9‑month tenure‑track position with permanent full‑time, exempt status. The appointment is 40 hours per week and is part of the College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences.

Primary Function Of Organizational Unit

N.C. A&T is a public, land‑grant, doctoral research institution and the largest historically Black university in the country. The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is one of four departments within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences and is accredited by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in child development, consumer sciences, fashion merchandising, and nutrition & food science; a Master of Science in food and nutritional sciences; and related master's arts degrees.

Minimum Requirements
  • Hold a doctorate in Food Science, Nutritional Science, or a closely related field with a focus on food biochemistry.
  • Teaching experience with strong technology skills in classrooms, a record of scholarly achievement, and grant‑writing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Interdisciplinary expertise bridging food science and nutrition.
  • Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate courses such as food microbiology, biotechnology, food safety and sanitation, risk assessment, and food protection and defense.
