Job summary

North Carolina A&T State University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to study the metabolic interactions of dietary polyphenols and endogenous metabolites. The candidate will conduct scientific research and publish peer‑reviewed papers, while providing technical assistance to graduate and undergraduate students in the CEPHT lab.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in nutrition/food science, natural products, analytical chemistry, or closely related fields.
  • Experience with MS instrumentation: LC-MS, GC-MS, and chemical derivatization.
  • Extensive experience operating and maintaining MS instruments and data analysis software.
  • Experience in qualitative analysis of polyphenol metabolites and trace-level biomolecule analysis in vivo.
  • Knowledge in mass-based metabolomic research.
  • Knowledge in natural product chemistry and polyphenol-endogenous metabolite interactions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for publishing scientific results.
  • Strong ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position

The person employed in this Postdoctoral Research Associateposition will study the metabolic interactions of dietarypolyphenols and endogenous metabolites. This candidate is expectedto conduct scientific research and have peer-reviewed scientificpublications and provide technical assistance to graduate andundergraduate students working in the lab as needed.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institutionand has been the largest historically Black university in thecountry for the past decade. The Center for Excellence in Post- Harvest Technologies fostersinterdisciplinary research in post-harvest technologies, including:developing and testing functional foods, isolating andcharacterizing the health-promoting components in foods, improvingprocesses to extend shelf life and control spoilage and food-bornepathogens, developing new value-added products from agriculturalcommodities, evaluating and modeling consumer acceptance of foodproducts, developing and testing novel biodegradable and bioactivefood packaging, and optimizing parameters for process-engineering.CEPHT provides unique opportunities for experiential education ofyoung scientists in cutting-edge technologies and appliedpost-harvest research. CEPHT seeks science-based solutions topost-harvest issues facing growers, food processors, distributorsand consumers. We provide seminars, short courses, workshops, andeducational materials that respond to the needs of growers, andfood processing and packing industries. With advanced tools,facilities and personnel, CEPHT is prepared to help producers,processors, distributors and retailers with all aspects ofpost-harvest processing, including packaging, consumer research,analysis of food components, and development of new foodproducts

Minimum Requirements
  • Ph.D. in nutrition/food science, natural products, analyticalchemistry, or other closely related fields.
  • Experience with MS instrumentation: LC-MS, GC-MS, and chemicalderivatization
  • Extensive experience on operating and maintaining different MSinstruments and data analysis software
  • Experience in qualitative analysis of polyphenol metabolites, andtrace-level analysis of biomolecules in vivo
  • Knowledge in mass-based metabolomic research
  • Knowledge in natural product chemistry
  • Knowledge in the interactions between polyphenols and endogenousmetabolites
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for communicatingand publishing scientific results
  • Strong ability to work both independently and in a teamenvironment
