Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Social Work Faculty & Practicum Director serves in a dual role, providing teaching, advising, and service within the Bachelor of Social Work program while overseeing all practicum and internship placements. The role ensures academic quality, strong community partnerships, and compliance with accreditation, licensure, and institutional standards. All faculty at Alverno College collaborate in curriculum development, teaching, learning, assessment, and program evaluation within the program and the curriculum at large. This includes instructional and administrative duties as necessary and assigned.

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of courses in our Bachelor of Social Work program. The faculty teaching load will require the
    teaching of theory and practicum supervision courses. Faculty members have the opportunity to teach in their interests within the program.
  • Advise and mentor Bachelor of Social Work students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • Engage in scholarship and service consistent with program and institutional expectations.
  • Engage in committee work with colleagues across the college.
  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee student practicum placements.
  • Review and approve practicum sites to ensure alignment with program competencies and accreditation
    standards.
  • Conduct site visits (virtual or in-person) and maintain active communication with site supervisors.
  • Ensure qualified supervision is in place, and expectations are clearly defined.
  • Monitor student hours, supervision documentation, and learning agreements.
  • Ensure timely completion of midterm and final evaluations by site supervisors and students.
  • Cultivate and maintain community partnerships and manage affiliation agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards (e.g., Council on Social Work Education), and College policies.
  • Collect and report practicum data for program review and accreditation.

Requirements

Qualifications and Education

  • Master of Social Work from a CSWE accredited program required;
  • Social Work License required;
  • Preferred candidates will have experience teaching at the college level;
  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor highly desired;

  • Strong organizational, documentation, and partnership-building skills;

    contexts;

  • Ability to respond appropriately in situations requiring crisis assessment or emergency referral;
