Job summary

First Community Credit Union is seeking an Assistant Accounting Manager (AVP) for Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting in Houston. The role will lead the senior accounting team, oversee complex GAAP transactions, and ensure accurate financial statements.

You will develop technical memos and policies while guiding journal entries and reconciliations. Ideal candidates will have 3–5 years in FP&A or related fields, with a preference for public accounting or regulated institutions.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of experience in FP&A, cost or managerial accounting, treasury/ALM, or public accounting.
• Financial institution experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience in technical accounting and team leadership is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Sr. Accounting team in technical accounting and financial reporting.
• Identify, document and record complex transactions under GAAP (e.g., loan sales, securitizations, investments, derivatives).
• Prepare technical accounting memos and formal accounting policies.
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Oversee period-end close activities and ensure internal controls compliance.

Job description

First Community is seeking an Assistant Accounting Manager (AVP) - Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting, to lead the Sr. Accounting team and is responsible for identifying, evaluating, documenting, and properly recording complex and non-routine transactions under GAAP, including but not limited to loan sales and securitizations, investments and derivatives, fair value measurements, long-lived assets, and the allowance for credit losses.

The AVP is also responsible for technical accounting memos and formal accounting policies for such transactions, and for the completeness and accuracy of the Credit Union’s GAAP financial statements.

Additionally, reviews and approves journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for supervised areas.

Oversees period-end close activities and deadlines for assigned accounting areas.

Ensures effective operation of internal controls and maintains sufficient documentary evidence in compliance with applicable standards and Credit Union policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree or completion of a specialized course of study or equivalent work experience

Experience

• Three to five years of experience in FP&A, cost or managerial accounting, treasury/ALM, or public accounting.
• Financial institution experience is preferred but not required

Preferred Certifications

• Three to five years of relevant experience in public accounting or industry, including both technical accounting and team leadership experience.
• Experience working at or with a regulated depository institution is preferred, but not required.
