Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an organized Assistant Accountant to support the NYCSCA Emergency Program in New York City. You will help manage financial records, process invoices, and support AP/AR, budgeting, and reporting in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll collaborate with project teams, ensure compliance with contractual terms, and maintain documentation with accuracy and confidentiality while utilizing ERP and MS Office tools.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time clerical or administrative experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in accounting/finance with construction industry focus.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel.

Your impact

Jacobs is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Accountant to support financial, accounting, and administrative functions for the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) Emergency Program.

This role supports daily financial operations, documentation management, invoice processing, reporting, and coordination with project teams. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, excellent organizational abilities, and experience working with financial records and accounting systems in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate financial records and accounting documentation.
  • Review progress billings, including AIA G702/G703 forms, Certified Payroll review and compliance against the Schedule of Values (SOV), time and material (T&M) billing with all related support documentation
  • Monitor job costs, review subcontractor pay applications, and track expenses against the project budget.
  • Collect lien waivers, track subcontractor insurance, and ensure adherence to contract terms.
  • Process invoices, payment requests, expense reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Review accounting data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain organized electronic and hardcopy financial files.
  • Prepare financial reports, spreadsheets, and reconciliations.
  • Assist with budget tracking and cost reporting activities.
  • Coordinate with project teams regarding financial documentation and approvals.
  • Support audits and compliance reviews by gathering required records.
  • Utilize accounting and office software to manage and report financial information.
  • Perform general administrative duties related to accounting operations.
  • Ensure professionalism and confidentiality in handling financial information.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams and accounting staff.
  • Work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
What's you'll need
  • Associate degree from an accredited program
  • Minimum of two (2) years of fulltime clerical or administrative experience with a
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in accounting, finance, mathematics, bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or related financial functions focused within the construction industry.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Ideally, you'll have
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Experience working in construction, engineering, government, or capital program environments
  • Familiarity with ERP, accounting, or financial management systems
  • Experience supporting project based financial operations

Salary

The base salary range for this position is $90,000.00 to $98,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
