Job summary

City Cast DC is seeking an experienced editor to supervise and support a growing team of local reporters across beats and platforms. Reporting to the Managing Editor, this editor will oversee day-to-day assignments, editing, and coverage strategy to drive distinct, newsroom-wide results.

The ideal candidate is news-driven, nimble, and passionate about training reporters to expand coverage across articles, newsletters, podcasts, and social media.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years editing and managing reporters at a news outlet.
• Strong editorial judgment and ability to elevate stories.
• Experience working in fast-paced, deadline-driven newsrooms.

Responsibilities

• Monitor news developments to identify coverage opportunities.
• Offer guidance to reporters on how to cover items.
• Edit a team of reporters with daily feedback and support.
• Review, refine, and approve story pitches and angles.
• Edit newsletters and reporting for clarity, structure, voice, and accuracy.
• Collaborate with podcast and social teams to ensure cross-platform consistency.
• Use audience metrics and reader feedback to inform coverage decisions.
• Fact-check reporting and ensure fairness throughout editing process.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to grow writers and journalists.
