Job summary

Fox News Media in Washington, D.C. is seeking an organized Assignment Editor to join the assignment desk team.

You will coordinate daily news coverage across the Capitol, White House, Pentagon, and other locations, responding quickly to breaking news and directing crews and editors. The ideal candidate has newsroom experience, strong editorial and logistical skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Experience working in a local or national newsroom.
• Familiarity with Washington, D.C., including major government agencies and venues.
• Strong logistical and editorial skills with knowledge of national and international politics.
• Knowledge of network pool operations at the desk level with emphasis on unilateral benefit.
• Self-starter who can work independently, as well as a team player.
• Strong multitasking, prioritization, and decision-making skills during breaking news.
• Experience with satellite trucks, LiveU, AVOC, fiber drops, and related live-production logistics.
• Willingness to work holidays, weekends, early mornings, and late nights.

Responsibilities

• Monitor wires, social media, and other broadcast networks for news developments.
• Assign, move, and adjust crews and reporters to meet changing coverage demands.
• Work with beat producers to plan and adjust coverage as news develops.
• Ensure urgent and updated information is entered into queues and communicated to relevant personnel.
• Reach out to government agencies, departments, outside contacts, and FOX personnel to gather and confirm information.
• Develop creative coverage plans that maximize available resources.
• Aggressively seek out additional information, identify story opportunities, and pitch coverage ideas.
