Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Generate, research, verify, plan, and develop story ideas for our newscasts and other platforms.
• Gather information from multiple broadcasts and online sources to determine coverage opportunities.
• Assign stories, dispatch reporters/photographers and multimedia journalists to ensure complete daily stories and reports.
• Coordinate crews, arrange interviews, and provide accurate addresses and contact details.
• Update stories with the latest information and developments.
• Maintain INews tool with crews and locations.
• Monitor law enforcement and fire communications for spot news and enterprise stories.
• Assist fellow writers and teams with gathering information and updating stories.
• Record video feeds/pools and participate in editorial meetings.
• Work well in a fast-paced environment, manage breaking news, and meet deadlines.

ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM:

Univision Television Group is looking for a Temp Assignment Desk Writer to join our team! TelevisaUnivision is seeking a Temp Assignment Desk Writer for their local newscast in Los Angeles, CA to write award-winning content for the Spanish language broadcast network.

ABOUT YOU:

Candidate will need to possess a strong understanding of time management, production workflows and be able to lead in high stress situations. Strong preference is given to individuals with market experience or an understanding of Los Angeles Hispanic demographics, geography, and newsmakers in the market.

This position will be responsible for managing story assignments, coordinate logistics, provide support and follow up daily workflow for field crews. Gather information from local, state, and national agencies, non-profit organizations, broadcasts, and on-line sources to determine coverage opportunities. This individual must be a strategic and creative thinker, a self-starter, and a collaborator willing to learn new tools and share ideas. The candidate should maintain good and clear communication with other assignment desk editors, managers as well as the producer, executive producer, anchors, production and multiplatform team, and technical crews.

Candidate should be very familiar with digital technology and social media and be committed to continue advancing their skills in a changing environment.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

• - Generate, research, verify, plan, and develop story ideas for our newscasts, and other platforms.
• - Gather information from several broadcasts and online sources to determine coverage opportunities.
• - Assign news stories, dispatch and coordinate Reporter/Photographer crews and Multimedia Journalists to ensure a complete and efficient gathering of news elements for daily stories and special reports.
• - Coordinate our crews in their news gathering and production process, making and confirming appointments with interviewees as well as providing accurate address and contact information to news crews.
• - Constantly update news stories with the latest information and developments.
• - Maintain the INews tool updated with crews and locations.
• - Monitor law enforcement and fire communications, check news services, and social media messages to determine coverage of spot news and enterprise stories.
• - Assists fellow writers, producers, and multiplatform team with gathering information and updating stories.
• - Responsible for making sure video feeds/pools are recorded.
• - Must participate in editorial meetings to inform those gathered of events being covered.
• - Must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment, manage breaking news situations, and respond quickly to changes
• - Must be able to manage simultaneous projects and meet tight deadlines.

YOU HAVE: (aka Qualifications)

• - At least 2 years' experience in a major news market.
• - Working knowledge of newsroom operation system (iNews, vizRT).
• - Must be bilingual with the ability to write fluently in Spanish and English.
• - Flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
• - Ability to monitor and record various video feeds/newscasts simultaneously.
