Job summary

Hearst Television in Rogers, Arkansas, is seeking an Assignment Manager to lead the assignment desk and coordinate a continuous flow of information to all platforms. You will direct news staff in story ideas and editorial control, developing sources and taking a proactive approach to market issues.

Report to the News Director and work in person. You will listen to police scanners, manage breaking news and weather coverage, and ensure timely updates across broadcasts and digital platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience listening to police scanners.
• Ability to multi-task while coordinating crews and managers.
• Familiarity with newsgathering tech and terminology.
• Experience with digital platforms, especially social media.
• Strong communication skills and editorial judgment.
• Ability to build sources and maintain professional relationships.
• Comfort working in high-pressure breaking news and weather situations.

Responsibilities

• Listen to police scanners covering the market.
• Respond to breaking news and severe weather.
• Develop and update stories by contacting sources.
• Organize day-to-day planner using press releases, emails, calls and tips.
• Plan coverage of major events and schedule staff.
• Assist producers, editors, reporters and photographers with gathering information.
• Track field crews and maintain field communication.
• Write news stories for broadcasts and website; post on social media.
