Job Summary:

We are seeking a Vice President for our Valuations Team within J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s Global Alternatives Group. Reporting to the Head of Valuations for Global Alternatives, the successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing private market investment valuations, including equity and debt valuations of investments in JPMAM’s U.S. Real Estate, Private Credit, and Private Capital funds and accounts, with potential expansion into international real estate, infrastructure, and transportation in the future.

This role promotes ongoing contact between the Valuations Team, Head of Valuations, external valuers, seasoned asset managers, analysts/associates, and investment team members.

Job responsibilities:

  1. Understanding appraisal approaches: income, sales comparable/market, and cost; reviewing appraisals and commenting on the reasonableness of values and assumptions; identifying errors and issues; discussing concerns with asset management; and communicating effectively with appraisers to resolve value conclusions within reporting timeframes.
  2. Audit Support: Responding to auditors’ questions and providing additional information for asset valuations.
  3. Platform-wide initiatives: Participating in training activities, process/technology enhancements, etc., to benefit the broader platform.
  4. Communication: Informing the Head of Valuations of valuation process issues and proposing solutions.
  5. Investment Committee Review: Attending/reviewing presentations for new acquisitions, identifying appraisal risks and pricing inconsistencies.
  6. Financial Modeling: Fluency in Argus Enterprise and Excel, with the ability to model valuations.
  7. Presentation Skills: Strong written and verbal skills to present and defend findings to stakeholders, including portfolio managers, auditors, service providers, and investors.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  1. Understanding of alternative asset classes: including debt funds and private company investments; strong written and quantitative analysis skills; intellectual curiosity to challenge peers.
  2. Skills: Abstract reasoning, high organization, multitasking, self-starting abilities.
  3. Experience: Minimum of eight years in institutional private market asset valuations.
