Job Summary
The Campus Controller's Office at CU Boulder welcomes applicationsfor an Asset Accounting Manager! The Asset Management Unit existsto assure proper accounting for capital equipment and inventoriesfor the University of Colorado at Boulder (UCB). This unit providesconsulting, training, and mentoring regarding asset management tocampus personnel on the use of the finance systems and the businessprocesses associated therewith, including departmental roles andresponsibilities. They assist campus partners in facilitatingaccounting management and control of fiscal operations andresources.
This position exists to control new acquisition of capitalequipment by campus departments by reviewing and verifyingpurchasing documents; contacting departments; correcting improperaccounting codes; tracking/uploading files; reconciling transactionsto department files and assigning tags and coordinating the taggingof new equipment. The lifecycle of campus capital equipment isultimately managed by this position to ensure correct policies,procedures, accounting, and financial reporting. This position alsotrains and manages the Property Accounting Specialist and students(when needed) in completing periodic capital equipment inventorytasks; including but not limited to: capital equipment tagging,capital equipment inventory cycles from start to finish, data inputinto the PSAM system and statistical sampling and testing ofdepartment completed capital equipment inventories.

We provide oversight, assistance and training infinancial stewardship for the campus.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Execution and Management of Capital Asset Process
- Execute and manage the collection of capital equipment byreviewing purchase orders, journal entries and information fromcampus partners.
- Execute and manage the entry of a large volume of capitalassets into PSAM each month.
- Manage the new and replacement of capital equipment tags forcampus partners within the current and new process.
- Execute and manage the Gift-in-kind process.
- Manage the reconciliation of capital accounts.
- Review of non-capital expense accounts to ensure properaccounting assignment.
Manage, Research and Attend to Campus Requests
- Review and approve Journal Entries for account code 810XXX onsponsored research speedtypes for allowability. Check to ensureJournal Entries are necessary and allowable under capital equipmentguidelines and policies. Research Financial Services (RFS) and RFSCloseout route these JE’s journal entries to this position forapproval within PeopleSoft.
- Monitor and address all capital equipment related emails in theproperty email inbox with a focus on training, collaboration,responsiveness, issue resolution and customer service to our campuspartners.
Capital Equipment Fabrication Tracking and Recording
- Work with departments to set up new capital equipmentfabrications and make additions to fabrications. Create fabricationtag numbers and review and approve new fabrication speedtypes.
- Monitor expenses that are charged to the fabrication expenseaccount code. When a fabrication is complete, work with thedepartment to make sure the expenses are complete, accurate in thecorrect account code.
- Review, reconcile, and approve fabrication costs then enter thefabrication into PSAM and create the necessary Journal Entry.
- Work with RFS on any capital equipment issues or questions thatthey may have. Work with the RFS Closeout group in the Closeoutprocess of awards to ensure that Fabrications are completed beforethe award is closed out and all capital related expenses arecomplete and accurate before the final report is sent to the sponsorand the speedtypes are closed.
Campus Training, Website Maintenance and Policy Updates
- Responsible for co-planning an annual capital equipment andfabrication training for departmental staff, one-on-one training asneeded, attending the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG) andProperty Services Training as a resource and working with the CCOTrainers as needed.
- Works closely with the CCO Leadership to update equipmentrelated policies and procedures, including the Capital EquipmentProperty Accounting Office (PAO) standard operations manual. Thereare several equipment related forms that require periodicmaintenance, updating and approval. There is a dedicated PAOwebsite that this role is the primary contact.
Train, Supervise and Manage the Property Accounting Specialistand Students
- Trains and manages the Property Accounting Specialist andStudents (when needed) in completing periodic equipment inventorytasks; including but not limited to: equipment tagging, equipmentinventory cycles from start to finish, data input into the PSAMsystem and statistical sampling and testing of department completedequipment inventories
Coordination with Property Services and Equipment Disposal
- Works closely with Property Services on the disposal ofequipment. This includes accessing their system and reviewing (ormonitoring) the reviewing of campus items being disposed throughProperty Services to ensure the completeness and accuracy ofdisposed equipment, that will then be disposed of in PSAM. Continueto coordinate with Property Services to find the most efficient wayfor campus partners to dispose and transfer their equipment.
Special Projects
- This position will be required to assist with short-term andlong-term special projects as they are identified and deemednecessary by CCO Leadership. The focus of these projects are toenhance and modernize the capital equipment systems, processes andpolicies of campus.

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $114,000 annually.Relocation may be offered within departmental guidelines.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or assetrelated field.
- Five years of accounting experience, including asset managementaccounting or budgeting experience with strong Excel skills andprevious supervisory experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience maysubstitute.
What You Will Need
- Thorough knowledge of advanced accounting concepts, principlesand practices, rules and regulations, GASB, GAAP, NACUBO accountingprinciples and guidelines.
- Ability to manage advanced cost accounting analyses andevaluations independently.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. This must include advancedspreadsheet/database skills, including use of data warehouse andmanipulation of large data sets.
- This position must be able to establish rapport and become acredible source of information and guidance for campuspartners.
- Proven ability to develop solutions to a variety of problems ofmoderate scope and complexity using existing policies and practicesas a guide.
- Attention to detail and the ability to recognize unusualsituations, question them and provide alternative solutions.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
