Job description

Main Purpose of Job

Responsible for all clerical operations within the County Assessment Office subject to the supervision of the Supervisor of Assessments.

Position Duties
  • Interact with the General Public in a timely and courteous manner, providing 97% accurate information, and adhering to the SDAT Customer Service Promise and related policies.
  • Train all clerical staff to a level necessary for efficient functioning, following office guidelines and state regulations.
  • Delegate work to subordinates to produce the most efficient workflow, following office procedures and guidelines.
  • Evaluate subordinate employees fairly and identify ways to improve their performance, following PEP and office procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist the Supervisor in developing and implementing clerical office policy to the best of one's ability.
  • Complete other duties in a timely manner as defined by the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: Four years of clerical or technical experience in processing assessment records and forms.
  • Candidates may substitute additional experience performing general clerical duties on a year‑for‑year basis for up to two years of the required education.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer in financial administration and program classification or financial administration and program specialty codes in the accounting and budget field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of policies and practices used in a local assessments office.
  • Clerical or technical experience in processing property assessment records and forms.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational/time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google platforms.
Limitations on Selection

Must be willing to work in Worcester County. Recruitment is limited to current State Department of Assessments and Taxation employees only.
