Job summary

American Rheinmetall's Prototype Center seeks an Assembly Technician to join the engineering team, focusing on assembling prototype combat vehicle systems to meet schedule, budget, and quality targets. You will work with partners to assemble major vehicle systems, read blueprints and drawings, use hand and power tools, and uphold safety and quality, with opportunities to contribute design improvements.

Must have 5+ years in prototype assembly of heavy vehicles; high school diploma;

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of prototype vehicle and component assembly experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience performing heavy mechanical assembly on military vehicles.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, torque wrenches, grinders, and magnetic drills.
  • Ability to follow design drawings and work instructions precisely.

Job Summary:

The Prototype Center Assembly Technician will work within the American Rheinmetall (AR) engineering team focused on performing vehicle assembly tasks on prototype vehicles and systems to meet schedule, budget and quality expectation of customer.

Essential Functions:
  • Working with partners and teammates to assemble AR's combat vehicle prototypes and systems.
  • Experience performing heavy assembly tasks on military vehicles that include mechanical assembly of major vehicle systems such as chassis, turret, weapon systems, armor systems, drive systems, and power pack.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, 3D models, specifications sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform assembly tasks from design drawing and written or verbal work instruction.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, magnetic drills, grinders, etc.
  • Proven safety record in performing assembly operations during career.
  • Ability to adapt positively to changes and rework during assembly tasks.
  • Proven history of offering input on design and assembly improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Diesel Engine Mechanic and/or Heavy Vehicle Assembly experience required.
  • 5 or more years of experience in prototype component assembly and vehicle assembly.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, magnetic drills, grinders, etc.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform assembly tasks from design drawing and written or verbal work instruction.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certifications such as ASEC Mechanic License, CDL, fork truck operation, crane operation preferred.
  • Welding certification is a plus.
  • Higher Education Degree is a plus.
Background Prerequisites:

Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Military vehicle assembly or military vehicle modification experience.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel power pack operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with high voltage electrical systems and electrical harness installation in vehicles.
  • Fork Truck, Crane, and basic machine shop equipment skill with certifications.
  • Welding of steel and aluminum experience with certification.
  • Material surface preparation and spray painting experience.
  • Experience in driving/operating of military vehicles.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • Rigging, lifting, and transporting parts and equipment occasionally.
  • Requires standing for extended periods of time continuously.
  • Lifting or carrying weight up to 50 pounds unassisted and pushing or pulling weight up to 25 pounds unassisted can occur Frequently.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity continuously.
  • Climbing into and onto vehicles or mock-ups with limited physical space frequently.
  • Will be required to handle regulated and hazardous wastes and materials occasionally.
  • Must be able to become certified to wear a respirator occasionally.
