Job summary

Summit Polymers is seeking an Engineer, Manufacturing (Assembly) to lead hands-on technical work in assembling injection molded plastic parts for automotive interior trim, full center consoles and related components. You will provide technical leadership to production teams, ensuring operational excellence and quality in daily activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 5 years automotive manufacturing experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Proficiency in Omron PLC programming.
• Ability to read electrical and pneumatic prints.
• Ability to view assembly machines in software such as SolidWorks eDrawing, to cut sections & measure dimensions.
• Knowledge of plastic welding processes including sonic, vibration, hot plate, IR welding.
• Knowledge of secondary decoration processes including hot stamping, pad printing, laser etching/marking.
• Knowledge of sensors and vision systems to create robust assembly machines and processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Independent thinking with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities and projects.
• Preferred: SolidWorks, VisMockup, Six axis robot and cobot programming – Fanuc and UR.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for all assembly machine activities associated with new product launches including collaboration with product development and manufacturing leadership to ensure manufacturability and quality.
• Specify robust assembly machines with effective error proofing, good ergonomics, and standardized work.
• Develop standardized work, machine quote specs, capacity analysis, work balance tables, and assembly cell layouts.
• Lead machine design review meetings and monitor progress of assembly machine construction to meet timing.
• Support assembly machine and cell production with preventative maintenance and troubleshooting; drive kaizen improvements.
