Job summary

Express Employment Professionals is looking for an Assembler I in Kent, WA, to perform general assembly of mechanical and electronic subassemblies using hand tools and machines. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of related experience.

The job requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with teammates. Candidates should be physically able to perform tasks that may include lifting up to 75 lbs.

Job description

As an Assembler I, you will perform general assembly of mechanical and/or electronic subassemblies and products, using hand tools and machines, while ensuring quality standards are met.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Use tools to make or repair parts and products.
  • Interpret technical documents such as diagrams, schematics, blueprints, or other verbal or written instructions.
  • Work with other members of the line or group to assemble products at takt rate.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Identify defective items and handle them according to established procedures.
  • Take precision measurements to ensure perfect fit of components.
  • Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needed supplies.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Organize and maintain raw materials and work in process within the work area.
  • Implement and maintain department policies and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1‑year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to use reason to solve problems as they arise and identify areas for improvement.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

  • Technical knowledge and ability to read blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to work both individually and in groups.
  • Apply good judgment and follow directions.
  • Proven ability to set project priorities, establish department/discipline goals and objectives for self.
  • Ability to use a computer, including Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to either stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, push, pull, reach, grab, turn, twist, and/or stoop.
  • Ability to grab small parts or hand tools with hands.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with co‑workers, customers and vendors.
Physical Requirements
  • Sit, talk or hear; frequently use hands to grip or feel.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Vision and depth perception suitable for using machinery and/or a computer.
  • Manual dexterity suitable for using machinery and/or a computer.
  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to work in a warehouse.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50–75 lbs.
  • Ability to sit and stand up to 20–70% of the time comfortably.
Working Conditions
  • Comfortable working in a complex production machining and assembly environment.
  • Work area primarily manufacturing environment around machines and heavy equipment such as a forklift or pallet operator.
  • Operation of the machine requires working with and coming into contact with various materials and substances.
  • Willingness to wear finger cots, masks, and/or safety vest.
  • Working temperatures may vary from hot, cold, humid, wet or dry.
  • Working hours may be extended; weekends may be required.
