Job summary

INNOVEYANCE in Indiana seeks an Assembly Lead to direct the Assembly department, maintain production schedules, and ensure quality standards are met. The role requires supervising staff and assisting in hiring and training to build a capable team.

The candidate should have at least two years of lead experience in manufacturing, proficiency reading blueprints, using measuring tools, and working with ERP systems. Forklift certification and OSHA awareness are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the activities of the Assembly department to meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Assists in hiring and training employees for the Assembly team.
  • Supervises and assigns work, monitors daily production output, and assesses performance.
  • Ensures assembly work follows blueprints and operator instructions; completes required paperwork.
  • Maintains safety, housekeeping, and quality control; participates in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Reads and interprets mechanical/electrical drawings and uses measuring tools as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees within the Assembly department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable law, including:

  • Assigning and directing work; monitoring daily production output
  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work
  • Appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees
  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Approving timecards, schedules, and time-off requests
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that production schedules are met
  • Completes required paperwork for the Assembly department
  • Provides guidance to employees regarding Assembly operations
  • Ensures quality standards are achieved
  • Assists in the hiring process and training of employees
  • Assembles product using mechanical blueprints, operator instruction worksheets, and/or verbal orders
  • Obtains material for operations to be performed
  • Fastens parts together with screws, clamps, nuts, industrial glue, or other components with or without tools
  • Bends and installs conduit/pipe onto conveyor frame
  • Removes materials with or without tools
  • Observes conveyor operation to detect work piece defects; performs quality checks
  • Completes all functions associated with the complete assembly of a conveyor system in a timely manner and produces quality work
  • Packages, counts, seals, inspects, cleans, sorts, and/or prepares materials, parts, and/or finished goods
  • Performs safety and housekeeping duties
  • Participates in required training and applies safety skills/knowledge
  • Participates in continuous improvement teams and/or empowerment teams
  • Utilizes S.P.C. (Statistical Process Control) tools including gauging and other quality tools
  • Possesses personal hand tools and tool box according to the employee handbook
  • Accurately completes required documentation
  • Participates in training of co-workers in all aspects of job responsibilities
  • Enters and retrieves production data using [ERP/MES/scheduling software name]
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Manufacturing
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum two years of experience as a lead person in a similar manufacturing operation
  • Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates proficiency in reading tape measures and other measuring devices
  • Demonstrates proficiency in basic mathematics (fractions, decimals, conversions, etc.)
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the various types/forms of steel
  • Possesses and applies skill and ability to use hand, electric, and pneumatic tools
  • Possesses and applies knowledge of conduit bending and junction box mounting
  • Possesses and applies knowledge of basic mechanical skills in various operations
  • Possesses and applies knowledge of basic 3-phase electrical wiring skills in various operations
  • Possesses the skill and ability to read mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics
  • Demonstrates ability to think ahead and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrates ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer proficiency, including production/ERP tracking systems and standard office software
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before employees and management
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Forklift certification preferred, or ability to obtain
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
