Job summary

Precision Castparts is seeking an entry-level Level One Assembly Operator to perform a range of basic aerospace assembly tasks at our Phoenix facility. You will use templates, jigs, and fixtures to assemble components, measure dimensions with calipers and micrometers, and follow detailed work instructions while maintaining cleanliness and safety.

The role involves handling small parts, using hand tools, and performing basic pressure testing and abrasive blasting per procedures.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and follow detailed process instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Knowledge of basic safety practices in manufacturing.
  • Capable of using handheld measuring tools and basic inspection tools.
  • Able to interpret work orders and traveler/router.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret work orders (traveler/router).
  • Clock into jobs using Visual system.
  • Identify proper assembly tools and follow work instructions.
  • Use scale to mix sealants and primers.
  • Perform basic aerospace pressure testing and leak checks as instructed.
  • Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of testing equipment.
  • Perform abrasive blasting and verify surface cleanliness.

Job description

Position Summary

Under direct supervision, Level One Assembly Operators will perform a variety of entry level assembly tasks. These tasks require basic competencies in determining the right tool for the job, reading technical documents, prints and work instructions, using templates, jigs and fixtures to execute minor part-fitting operations such as filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, mixing and using two-part sealants and epoxy, riveting, installing freeze fit bushings, drilling, as well as reaming and countersinking close tolerance holes. In addition, Level One Assembly Operators will use basic handheld measuring tools such as scales, micrometers and calipers to verify part dimensions and demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude. The position also supports basic aerospace manufacturing processes including pressure testing, leak detection verification, and abrasive blasting operations in accordance with customer, quality, and safety requirements.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Correctly interpret work order (traveler/router).
  • Use Visual to clock into jobs.
  • Identify proper assembly tools.
  • Ability to follow work instructions.
  • Ability to look up specs.
  • Cleanliness/organization (6S).
  • Basic part marking (Ink stamp).
  • Tools – General & Inspection: Hand tools (Wrenches, feeler gauges, etc.), Torque wrench, Calipers.
  • Bushing/Pin installation (Freeze fit).
  • Use of Scale to mix sealant/primers/paints.
  • Helicoil installation.
  • Key-inserts installation.
  • Solid rivets installation.
  • Part protection / part handling.
  • Perform basic aerospace pressure testing and leak-check operations following established procedures and quality standards.
  • Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of pressure testing equipment.
  • Perform abrasive blasting of components and assemblies to specified surface preparation requirements.
  • Verify surface finish and cleanliness requirements following blasting operations.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements associated with pressure testing and abrasive blasting processes.
  • Meets production goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Basic knowledge of handheld measuring tools.
  • Read and write English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing safety practices.
  • Ability to follow detailed process specifications and work instructions.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Pass eye exam (Near Vision & Color).
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED desired but not required.
  • Previous manufacturing, assembly, aerospace, pressure testing, or abrasive blasting experience is a plus but not required.
