POSITION OBJECTIVE

Perform a wide range of final test, assembly and repair functions on completed drilling rigs following standards outlined in the “test book” and within Company safety guidelines.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive assembled drilling rig from the shop floor
  • Check assembly for overall appearance
  • Work from blueprints, drawings, specifications, and work orders to complete any remaining assembly, change over, or modification duties
  • Operate rig for all capacity, function and other tests for the particular model
  • Check and adjust all structures and operating systems including chassis, compressor, engine, electrical and hydraulic systems, jacks and filters
  • Check all options such as mud pumps, night lights, water injection, and other systems
  • Set and adjust all pressure (PSI), and engine speed (RPM) ratings to conformance
  • Perform function tests under full load
  • Maintain the test and equipment area free from oil spills and other contaminants
  • Detect and report defective materials, faulty operation, and unusual conditions to immediate Supervisor
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations / guidelines
  • Perform other duties as required and directed
  • Train new hires
  • Complete appropriate paperwork for rejected parts
  • Return leftover parts to Warehouse or stock area

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Required to read, write and comprehend English
  • Use and comprehend specifications, blueprints, and schematics
  • Ability to work from shop orders using fundamental knowledge of assembly techniques and applications
  • Overall knowledge of assembly and rig operation
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and basic low level electrical work on rigs

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • Two years minimum as an assembler (preferred)
  • Must have training in reading blueprints and electrical schematics

TRAINING PERIOD

  • Production test training and work in the production test for at least 60 days, and test a minimum of 6 rigs up to a maximum of 10. After completion of rig testing, the employee will complete a test that will be audited by a Quality Control representative.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • Must be able to climb and move around on the rig while conducting tests. Heavy physical demands in handling material and related operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Somewhat disagreeable working conditions including exposure to dirt, heat, oil and other elements

RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT / PROCESS / MATERIAL / PRODUCT

  • Handles equipment such as photo tack, heat gun (to report temperatures), test gauge, and multi meter. Large damage amounts if equipment is improperly handled.

QUALITY

  • Responsible for providing the next operation with a defect free unit.
