Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in Largo, FL is hiring for a versatile production associate on the second shift. The role requires working across at least two production lines and performing a range of duties from spot welding to forklift operation.

You will train new employees, follow safety rules, and adapt to overtime and Saturday hours as needed. A high school diploma or GED and a manufacturing background are preferred, with forklift certification encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship (or equivalent)
• Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
• Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain within first month of starting position

Responsibilities

• Fully competent to perform all positions on a minimum of two production lines in the facility
• Perform duties such as spot welding, forklift operation, material location, painting, foam, brazing, Machine Operator 1, operating an assortment of hand tools
• Assist in training and orienting of new employees
• Be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to responsibilities
• Detect defective materials or questionable conditions and report to supervisor
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow safety regulations
• Be flexible with overtime and shift changes including Saturday hours as needed
• Other duties as required

What You’ll Do

• Fully competent to perform all positions on a minimum of two or more production lines in the facility
• Position will also be able to complete a wide variety duty such as: Spot welding, fork lift operation, material location, painting, foam, brazing, Machine Operator 1, operating an assortment of hand tools including but not limited to screwdrivers, drills, pliers, banders, etc.
• Position will assist in the training and orienting of new employees
• Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to responsibilities
• Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations
• Be flexible withovertime and shift changesincluding Saturday hours as needed
• Other duties as required

What You Bring

Required

• High school diploma or GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship (or equivalent years of education and 2 years of work experience)
• Experience in amanufacturing or industrialsetting
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Hold a Forklift Certification, or obtain a certification within a two time allowance of testing all within the first month of starting position

Preferred

• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Training and/or supervisory experience

• Ability to work in a noisy, dusty, industrial/manufacturing environment, and exposed to non-toxic fumes, chemicals, grease and oils
• Ability to work with machinery and moving parts
• Ability to operate crane, truck, motor vehicles
• Ability to work with moving vehicles, ladders, and scaffolding
• Ability to work at heights, and in confined spaces
• Ability to properly lift/carry/push/pull/manipulate/transport up to 30 lbs
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs, and frequently lift up to 40 lbs
• Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment
• Ability to work in repetitive motions and pressure involving fingers, hands, and wrists
• The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over hard concrete surface
• Exposure to recurring bending, crouching, stooping, kneeling, sitting, climbing, stretching, or similar activities
• Ability to reach at high levels
• Ability to read, write, speak and communicate in the English Language
• Must have the physical strength and ability to frequently work more than 40 hours weekly
