Job summary

STV, Inc. is seeking an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student to assist in plumbing and fire protection system design in New York.

You will support calculations for domestic water, sanitary drainage, storm drainage, and related systems, and use AutoCAD and Revit to produce drawings. Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, have coursework in fluid mechanics or building systems, and are eager to gain hands-on experience with NFPA standards and project

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Coursework in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, building systems, or fire protection engineering preferred.
• Prior internship or co-op experience in mechanical, plumbing, or fire protection design preferred.
• Interest in sustainable design principles (LEED familiarity a plus).
• Long-term interest in pursuing certifications such as CPD or NICET.
• Foundational understanding of plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Familiarity with NFPA standards and building codes (academic exposure acceptable).
• Basic knowledge of hydraulic principles and system sizing concepts.
• Proficiency or working knowledge of AutoCAD; familiarity with Revit preferred.
• Exposure to MicroStation or Bentley 3D is a plus.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of plumbing and fire protection system designs.
• Support calculations for domestic water, sanitary drainage, storm drainage, natural gas, compressed air, and vacuum systems.
• Assist with sprinkler system hydraulic calculations under supervision.
• Help develop technical reports, equipment schedules, and specifications.
• Support survey and documentation of existing plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Utilize AutoCAD and/or Revit to produce drawings and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Conduct basic research on applicable NFPA standards and building codes.
• Participate in internal design meetings and coordination sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support project delivery.
