Job summary

Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School in New York, NY invites applications for a Teacher Apprentice role. You will observe and learn from classroom teachers, co-teach, tutor, grade, and provide substitute coverage as needed.

The one-year role offers opportunities to gain hands-on teaching experience, with potential renewal. Competitive compensation includes benefits and professional development support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in specific subject matter or education preferred.
• Enrollment in a Bachelors program with a major or minor in Education with a minimum of 60 credits is required.
• Some teaching or tutoring experience is preferred.
• Experience supporting teachers through coaching or directing.
• Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds and needs.
• Experience and general understanding of educational administration.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders who are observing other teachers.
• Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
• Teach one class or small groups of students.
• Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year.
• Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
• Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support.
• Observe teachers in order to improve instructional techniques and classroom management.
• Meet regularly with a coach to implement feedback on lessons and instruction.
