Job summary

Uncommon Schools is seeking Apprentice Teachers to gain hands-on practice in a leading charter management organization. You will observe Master Teachers, co-teach with teacher-leaders, provide substitute coverage, and support tutoring and assessments throughout the year.

By year-end, Apprentice Teachers are strong candidates for full-time teaching roles, with ongoing professional development and coaching provided to develop core instructional skills.

Qualifications

• No formal teaching experience required; apprenticeship path provided.
• Ability to observe and learn from Master Teachers; willingness to co-teach and tutor.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes on behalf of Deans and teacher-leaders who are observing other teachers.
• Provide substitute teaching coverage for teachers within the school.
• Potentially teach one class or small groups of students.
• Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on more responsibility throughout the year.
• Develop teaching skills to potentially become a full-time teacher at the school.
• Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily.
