CalPortland seeks an Asphalt Plant Operator/Maintenance (Materials) to perform a mix of maintenance and operating duties at an outdoor asphalt plant in Paso Robles, CA. The role involves handling equipment, servicing the plant, and ensuring smooth operations under various weather conditions.

Responsibilities include operating the plant, completing preventative maintenance, fabricating and repairing components, troubleshooting issues, and performing general labor tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to work under pressure.
• Overtime, extended hours, night and weekend work as required.
• Work with minimal supervision.
• Lift up to 95 lbs infrequently, 50 lbs frequently, and climb ladders up to 24 ft.
• Use various electric and air-powered hand, welding, and cutting tools.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate a dual-use, continuous-batch asphalt plant.
• Complete daily service requirements for preventative maintenance.
• Fabricate and repair hoppers and conveyors.
• Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance problems to minimize costs and delays.
• Repair conveyors' bearings, drive systems, and screen cloths.
• Maintain pumps, electrical systems, and wear prevention of equipment.
• Operate mobile equipment including heavy haul trucks, loaders, and dozers.
• Perform general labor such as shoveling and sweeping.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned by management.

Job Summary

Perform a combination of duties involving general maintenance/operation of an asphalt plant. Majority of work is outside in all weather conditions.

Compensation

$32.00 - $42.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate a dual-use, continuous-batch asphalt plant
• Complete daily service requirements of the asphalt plant for preventative maintenance issues
• Fabricate and repair hoppers and conveyors
• Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance problems to ensure minimum cost and prevent operational delays
• Repair conveyor systems, i.e. bearing replacement, drive systems, change screen cloths, structural fabrication
• General maintenance of various pumps and electrical requirements and wear prevention of equipment
• Operate mobile equipment including heavy haul trucks, front-end loaders, and track dozers
• General labor duties such as shoveling and sweeping
• Other duties as assigned by management

Education

High School Diploma/GED

Requirements/Qualifications

• Ability to work under pressure
• Available for overtime work, extended hours, night work, and weekend work as required for timely project completion
• Work with minimal supervision
• Ability to lift 95 lbs. infrequently, 50 lbs. frequently, and climb ladders/stairs up to 24’
• Ability to use various electric and air-powered hand, welding, and cutting tools

Preferred

• 4+ years’ experience in asphalt plant operations
• Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment and understanding of operations and safety requirements for the equipment
• Experience in welding and fabrication
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting
• Understanding of the type and quality of material being produced
• Familiar with MSHA regulations and annual training

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing. For work that will be performed in the San Francisco area, qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for employment.
