Overview

The Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, and maintaining asphalt production equipment to ensure the efficient production of high-quality hot mix asphalt that meets customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and production schedules. This role supports plant performance through equipment operation, quality control, preventative maintenance, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Safety Always Wins. Prioritize Safety by operating the hot mix asphalt plant and associated equipment in compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards to ensure safe and efficient production operations.
• Results matter. Monitor and adjust plant controls, material flow, temperatures, and production processes to consistently produce asphalt that meets quality specifications and customer requirements.
• Efficiency. Inspect plant systems and equipment, identify operational issues, and troubleshoot production challenges to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
• Ownership and caring. Take ownership by performing routine preventative maintenance and supporting repairs, shutdowns, and startup activities to ensure equipment reliability and operational readiness.
• Respect and engage. Collaborate effectively with quality control personnel, truck drivers, maintenance teams, and supervisors to support production schedules and resolve operational concerns.
• Determined. Maintain accurate production, inventory, maintenance, and compliance records to support operational decision‑making and regulatory requirements.
• Protect family and friends. Identify and address potential safety, environmental, and operational risks to protect employees, equipment, and the surrounding community.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Asphalt plant production experience, preferred.
• Welding experience a plus.
• Willingness to work variable shifts and overtime as needed.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot systems.
• Strong communication skills, proficient verbal and written English.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Legal right to work in U.S.

Travel

Position may require up to 5% travel by personal vehicle.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Work is performed in an outdoor industrial plant environment with exposure to moving equipment, dust, noise, vibration, asphalt materials, varying weather conditions, and temperature extremes. The role requires the ability to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, and work at heights for extended periods. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, and steel‑toed boots. The position requires adherence to all safety and environmental regulations and may require flexible schedules, overtime, weekends, and extended work hours during peak construction seasons.
