Job summary

Sunrock has a field-based Asphalt Paving Operator role in Raleigh, NC. You will operate paving equipment to place and compact asphalt, ensuring grade accuracy and a high-quality finish on roadway and site projects.

Expect 2+ years of paving or heavy equipment experience, reading grade stakes, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork in outdoor conditions. CDL preferred; High School diploma or GED recommended.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of asphalt paving or heavy equipment operation.
• Proficient in the safe operation of paving machinery including pavers, rollers, and skid steers.
• Ability to read grade stakes, understand slope/depth, and follow project specs.
• Strong understanding of compaction, mix temperature, and laydown techniques.
• Must have reliable transportation and the ability to work flexible hours.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license (CDL preferred).
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Operate asphalt pavers, rollers, and skid steers in placement and compaction.
• Adjust machine settings to control depth, width, and flow of materials.
• Conduct daily pre-trip inspections and report maintenance/safety issues.
• Ensure proper distribution and smooth finish of asphalt surface per grade specs.
• Coordinate with truck drivers, crew members, and supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with Sunrock MSHA/OSHA.
• Follow all safety policies and report unsafe conditions immediately.
• Provide guidance or mentorship to less experienced crew members as needed.
• Perform additional labor or support tasks on the crew as required.
