General Description

An Asphalt Paving Machine Operator is a skilled hourly position performing various tasks on construction projects, adapting to workflow needs.

Key Duties

1. Understand and execute paving procedures according to project standards.
2. Operate paving equipment safely and effectively.
3. Set feed sensors and determine material placement accurately.
4. Perform daily maintenance, including lubrication and safety checks.
5. Notify supervisors of equipment repairs.
6. Inspect equipment for leaks and damage before use.
7. Plan and meet grade and cross slope requirements.
8. Manage material placement and equipment settings like flow and screed adjustments.
9. Operate equipment to maintain straight lines and proper paving speed.
10. Use automatic grade and slope controls.
11. Prevent segregation during operation.
12. Understand hydraulic and electrical systems of the paver.
13. Work safely in a team environment and perform incidental duties as needed.

Qualifications

1. Minimum 3-5 years of industry experience as an Asphalt Paving Machine Operator.
2. High school diploma or GED preferred.
3. Ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively.
4. Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and perform physically demanding tasks.
5. Manual dexterity and alertness to safety and operational details.
