Job summary

EMERY SAPP & SONS is seeking an experienced Asphalt Mill Operator to operate milling machines and prepare surfaces for paving. You will monitor depths, slopes, and grades, perform basic repairs, and coordinate with crew and subcontractors to meet schedules and budgets.

The role requires 2+ years of heavy equipment experience, preferably in asphalt settings, with the ability to read plans and follow safety protocols. Strong communication skills are essential for project success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment operation preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, with experience in an asphalt setting preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Experience with government contracts and compliance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate asphalt milling machines to remove asphalt pavement to specified depths and grades.
  • Monitor milling depth, slope, and grade to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Maintain equipment and perform basic repairs as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with other crew members and subcontractors to ensure that work is completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with crew members and subcontractors to ensure that they are aware of project schedules and deadlines.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly maintained and that safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Identify and resolve issues that arise during construction projects.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new operators as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Mill Operator to work on our construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining asphalt milling equipment used to remove existing pavement and prepare surfaces for paving operations.
