Job summary

Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 currently has an opening for a Special Education Paraprofessional. This part-time role provides instructional support and interprets for deaf students to ensure equal access to education.

The paraprofessional will assist with academic, behavioral, language and physical needs, maintain records, and collaborate with teachers and staff across classrooms. CPI certification is encouraged and may be provided by the district.

Qualifications

• Valid ISBE paraprofessional credential or short-term approval.
• Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Willingness to learn technology used in classrooms.
• Desire to work with students with special needs.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Understand basic elements of an IEP.

Responsibilities

• Translate simultaneously with classroom presentations and events from English into sign language and translate student responses from sign to English.
• Communicate with teachers, staff, support services and students.
• Collaborate and foster teamwork.
• Maintain anecdotal notes and data recording as needed.
• Assist with feeding, toileting, and other physical needs under supervision.
