Job summary

The Menta Group is hiring a Paraprofessional to work with classroom instructors and staff to provide targeted teaching and support to students in the classroom and school-wide program.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on a 10-month calendar, with direct hire and year-to-year continuity. The role emphasizes ASL interpretation, behavior management, and collaboration with Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students to access the curriculum.

Qualifications

  • ASL proficiency required.
  • CDI or NIC preferred.
  • Experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
  • Fluency in ASL and signed English.
  • Strong communication skills required.
  • Flexibility to support multiple grade levels as populations change.
  • Paraprofessional Certification preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to operate tactfully under stress.
  • At least 23 years of age.

Responsibilities

  • Assist deaf or hard-of-hearing students by interpreting spoken material into sign language.
  • Facilitate peer communication.
  • Help students access the curriculum, daily routines and school activities.
  • Manage classroom behaviors.
  • Report behavioral concerns to appropriate staff.
  • Implement and maintain behavioral program policies and data.
  • Maintain classroom order and safety.
  • Provide general supervision of students inside the school setting.
  • Assist in prevention and management of incidents of non-compliance and/or escalation in behavior.
  • Respond to emergency situations.
  • Provide interventions to students to assist in managing behaviors.
  • Think quickly, independently, and tactfully.
