Job summary

Propio Language Services is seeking American Sign Language interpreters for onsite assignments in the Hartford, CT metropolitan area. This independent contractor role requires professional English and ASL proficiency and typically involves consecutive interpretation for healthcare, education, and community settings.

Qualified candidates hold an ASL certification (RID, BEI, or EIPA 3.7+), be able to travel to assignments, and comply with privacy and security requirements.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Professional proficiency in English and American Sign Language.
• Ability to interpret between English and American Sign Language.
• Must Hold at least one ASL certification (RID, EIPA 3.7+, BEI).
• State-specific ASL interpreting license where applicable.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education/experience.
• Reliable travel to onsite assignments.
• Background checks and screenings may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate consecutive interpretation between English and American Sign Language during onsite assignments.
• Provide remote interpretation by telephone or video when applicable.
• Follow interpreter protocols, professional standards, and client requirements.
• Comply with Propio and client confidentiality, privacy, and ethics requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy, security, and data-protection requirements (HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA).
• Maintain professional interactions with clients and participants.
• Maintain language proficiency and subject-matter knowledge for accurate interpretation.
