Qualifications

  • Master's degree in American Sign Language instruction, interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a closely related field.
  • Preference for native or near-native ASL proficiency.
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level and professional interpreting experience is preferred.
  • State-level or national interpreter certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the American Sign Language Interpreting Minor program.
  • Prepare students to communicate effectively with ASL users and work with interpreters in interpreting settings.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, advise and mentor students, and participate in departmental/university service.
  • Maintain current knowledge of professional standards and practices in ASL instruction and interpreting.
