This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor. Applicants must hold a master's degree, or its equivalent, in American Sign Language instruction, interpreting, Deaf Studies, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language. Previous teaching experience, particularly at the postsecondary level, professional interpreting experience, and state-level or national interpreter certification are preferred.Job Description:The successful candidate will teach courses in the American Sign Language Interpreting Minor program on the Oxford, Mississippi campus. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of Deaf culture and the cultural and linguistic foundations of American Sign Language, as well as an understanding of professional and ethical practices relevant to ASL instruction and interpreting. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate American Sign Language courses, prepare students to communicate effectively and appropriately with ASL users, and to work professionally with individuals and communities they may encounter in interpreting settings. Additional responsibilities may include contributing to curriculum development and program activities, advising and mentoring students, participating in departmental and university service, and maintaining current knowledge of professional standards and practices in American Sign Language instruction and interpreting.Review of applications will begin immediately.
