Job summary

University of Illinois Chicago is hiring an American Sign Language Interpreter for the Disability Resource Center in Chicago, IL. The role involves real-time translation and support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals across lectures and events.

Required are a high school diploma or equivalent and Illinois licensure at the Intermediate level or higher. The position offers a hybrid workplace and a competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Current Illinois licensure at the Intermediate Proficiency level or higher as specified in Section 1515.90 of the Interpreter for the Deaf Act of 2007 Rules.
• Fluency in American Sign Language, signed English or other modes of signed communication.
• Knowledge of English language structure, spelling, grammar.

Responsibilities

• Interpret simultaneously with lectures and events from English to ASL and vice versa.
• Interpret at special events and meetings.
• Assist Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, staff, and others as needed.
• Participate in interpreter staff meetings and trainings.
• Review materials beforehand to provide interpreting services.
