Job summary

Illinois State University seeks an Educational Interpreter to provide sign language interpretation for deaf and/or hard of hearing students aged 3-21 in diverse classrooms, events, and activities. Placement may shift between Thomas Metcalf School and University High School based on student need.

The position runs 7:30am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday, with summer layoff and a proposed start date in August 2026. ISBE approval is required; University benefits apply and funding ends June 30, 2027.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED is required.
• ISBE approval for sign language interpreting (including interim approval) is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreter services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students in classroom settings, school events, and extracurricular activities.
• Assist in transitioning between classrooms and activities across the school as needed.
• Convey high-level and technical language accurately for student comprehension.
