Job summary

Monterey County Office of Education seeks an Educational Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across general and special education settings. The interpreter will use sign language, fingerspelling, natural gestures, and speech to facilitate communication in classrooms and during activities.

Responsibilities include providing instructional support, collaborating with teachers, and potentially substituting under a 30-day permit when needed. Strong ASL and SEE skills required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in SEE, Signed English or Pigeon Signed English and ASL.
  • EIPA/ESSE-I/R or NAD/ACCI score of at least 4.0 required.
  • California Driver’s License and First Aid/CPR within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpreting and instructional support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Communicate using sign language, fingerspelling, gestures and speech in classrooms.
  • Support teachers in various instructional settings including extracurricular activities.
  • May substitute as needed with emergency 30-day permits.
