Job summary

BERKELEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks an Educational Interpreter to reinforce instruction for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. You will translate, tutor, and interpret in classroom settings, supporting teachers and students in achieving instructional goals.

The role requires ASL proficiency, an interpreter training credential, and experience with Deaf students. CPR/First Aid and passing EIPA or equivalent are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; completion of an interpreter training program issued by an authorized agency or community college.
• One year of experience working with Deaf and/or hard of hearing individuals.
• May require CPR/First Aid certificates.
• Pass Educational Interpreter Assessment (EIPA), ESSE, or RID Level I certificate, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to Deaf and/or hard of hearing students.
• Interpret for students using sign language and/or manual communications.
• Tutor and interpret for individuals and small groups to reinforce instructional concepts.
• Attend meetings and report student progress related to IEPs.
