Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools seeks an interpreter support professional to assist hearing impaired students in classroom activities and group settings. You will orient students to communication needs, provide tutoring or note-taking, and support staff with IEP implementation.

Required is a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an interpreter preparation program or equivalent experience, and licensure or permission from the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of interpreter preparation program or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Signed English at a normal conversational rate.
  • Licensed or permitted by the Alabama Licensure Board for Interpreters and Transliterators.

Responsibilities

  • Orients and provides instructional assistance to hearing impaired students for group activities as requested.
  • Provide tutoring and/or note taking services for hearing impaired students with the area subject teacher.
  • Assist in providing orientations to deafness to hearing students and staff.
  • Assist itinerant and classroom teachers with the implementation of IEPs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
