Job summary

Zing Recruiting seeks a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a middle school educational environment. This role facilitates communication between students, teachers, administrators, counselors, peers, and families, while promoting student independence and academic success.

Direct Hire, Contract to Hire, or Contract opportunities exist with a target pay of $50-$85/hr DOE.

Qualifications

• Must have strong proficiency in American Sign Language and educational interpreting.
• Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality and ethics.
• EIPA Written Test with 75%+ required; certification recognized by Virginia Dept. for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Responsibilities

• Interpret classroom instruction for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
• Facilitate communication among students, teachers, admins, counselors, peers, and families.
• Provide interpreting support during meetings, conferences, assemblies, field trips, and school activities.
• Support student participation in extracurricular activities as needed.
• Prepare for assignments to ensure accurate interpretation.
• Serve as a resource on interpreting services and Deaf culture awareness.
• Encourage student self-advocacy and independence.

Job description

We are seeking a qualified American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a middle school educational environment. This role is essential in facilitating effective communication between students, teachers, administrators, counselors, peers, and families while promoting student independence and academic success.

Target pay: $50-$85/hr. DOE

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of the EIPA Written Test with a passing score of 75% or higher.
• Minimum 3.5 score on the EIPA Performance Test or an equivalent certification recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
• Strong proficiency in American Sign Language and educational interpreting.
• Ability to work independently and maintain professional standards of confidentiality and ethics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher
• Previous experience interpreting in a K-12 educational setting.
• Experience supporting middle school-aged students.
