Job summary

HealthPRO Pediatrics is seeking an ASL Interpreter for a school-based role in Charleston, SC.You will provide classroom-based interpretation, translate ASL for teachers, and support IEP processes in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or completion of a sign language interpreter training program.
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English.
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA score ~3.2-3.5 or higher).
• Experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret spoken instruction and school activities into ASL for students.
• Translate student responses from ASL into spoken English for teachers and peers.
• Provide interpretation across settings, including classroom lessons, assemblies, and meetings.
• Attend IEP meetings and support IEP implementation.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to promote inclusive learning for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.

• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, peers, and staff
• Review lesson plans, textbooks, and materials in advance to ensure accurate interpretation
• Modify interpreting techniques based on the student’s communication level and needs
• Assist withIndividualized Education Program (IEP)implementation and attend IEP meetings
• Support students with:
• Academic Vocabulary development
• Social interaction and communication skills
• Maintain accurate conveyance of message content, tone, and intent during interpretation
• Collaborate with teachers and special education teams to support student progress
• Promote an inclusive learning environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
• Maintain strictconfidentiality and ethical standards
