Job description

Global Humanities Lecturer – Duties

Teach a range of courses in the Humanities, including core skills courses (e.g., HUM100W and HUM190), the global humanities course (e.g., HUM128), and possibly Humanities Honors courses. Depending on qualifications, there is also the possibility of teaching American Studies and Religious Studies courses.

  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population—age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Hold regular office hours for students, collaborate with other department faculty, staff, and the department chair, and participate in required course grading and assessment activities.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ensure all classes meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, bi‑chronous, in‑person, or hybrid).
Required Qualifications
  • ABD (All but Dissertation) or Ph.D. in a relevant interdisciplinary field such as Humanities, Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, American Studies, or a related field of Humanities or Social Sciences (e.g., Literature, History).
  • Demonstrated strong college‑level teaching skills and experience.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population, as gained through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest in and record of scholarly activity.
Compensation

Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated starting salary:

  • L‑A / Range 2: $5,507 – $5,959 per month
  • L‑B / Range 3: $6,221 – $7,481 per month
  • L‑C / Range 4: $6,825 – $9,431 per month
  • L‑D / Range 5: $8,593 – $10,347 per month

Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate for full‑time academic‑year faculty. Part‑time rates are prorated.

Employment Conditions

Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required for their role (e.g., preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity and Title IX, health and safety). They will be subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report Clery incidents and complete Clery Act training when designated.
