Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in biotechnology or a related field and two years of related industry work experience.
  • Ten years of experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry with industry recognized credentials in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver biotechnology and workforce training instruction through classroom, laboratory, hybrid, and customized training formats using effective, competency-based teaching methods.
  • Develop, maintain, and update curriculum, instructional materials, laboratory exercises, and course resources to align with learning outcomes, industry standards, and emerging biotechnology practices.
  • Assess student learning and support student success through evaluation, timely feedback, academic advising, and accurate maintenance of grades, attendance, and progress records.
  • Ensure safe and compliant learning environments by adhering to applicable laboratory safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
  • Provide program leadership and coordination, including supporting other instructors, maintaining program documentation, participating in program assessment, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Build and sustain industry partnerships while monitoring workforce trends to align training programs with employer needs and promote workforce development opportunities.
  • Contribute to institutional effectiveness and professional excellence through committee participation, professional development, grant and workforce initiatives, maintenance of required credentials, and service to the college community.

Job Description

The Aseptic Processing and Biotechnology Instructor is a part-time position located primarily on the Old Charlotte Highway ( OCH ) Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Aseptic & Biotechnology Training Programs, the Instructor provides direct instruction in biotechnology, BioWork, and related workforce training programs.

Instruction emphasizes applied biology, chemistry, and microbiology within biomanufacturing processes. The adjunct instructor also supports workforce initiatives, industry partnerships, and grant-funded programming in alignment with SPCC and regional economic development goals.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in biotechnology or a related field and two years of related industry work experience.
  • OR
  • Ten years of experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry with industry recognized credentials in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a closely related Life Science field.
  • Industry training experience applying principles of biology, chemistry, or microbiology in biomanufacturing, quality assurance/control, or laboratory environments.
  • Three years of experience with hands-on laboratory or cleanroom instruction, including microbiological and/or chemical techniques such as aseptic processing and environmental monitoring.
  • Teaching experience in a community college or university setting.
  • BioWork Certificate graduate or experience as BioWork instructor.
  • Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Canvas). Upon hire, the instructional staff must successfully complete required LMS training or provide documentation of prior experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
