Job summary

Utica Community Schools is seeking a Mechanic 26-27 in Sterling Heights, MI. You will inspect buses, repair vehicles, and ensure safe daily operation, reporting unsafe conditions to the Head Skilled Trade Mechanic.

The role requires ASE certification within 18 months, Michigan CDL Group A with endorsements, and a minimum of two years’ experience as a skilled-trade mechanic. Collaboration with staff is essential.

Qualifications

• ASE Certification required within 18 months of hire.
• Must hold or be willing to obtain Michigan CDL Group A with P and S endorsements.
• Must pass DOT physicals and pre-employment drug screens.
• Minimum two years of skilled-trade mechanic experience.
• Ability to work with staff, students and community stakeholders.
• Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect school buses weekly, monthly and annually to ensure safety and economy.
• Report to Head Skilled Trade Mechanic any unsafe bus condition.
• Attend in-service training courses where possible.
• Keep records and prepare required reports.
• Obtain and maintain Michigan CDL Group A with endorsements (P/S).
• Repair district vehicles and buses to maintain daily operation.
• Collaborate with Auxiliary Service staff to promote safe transportation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
