Job summary

Open Sky Community Services in Worcester, MA seeks Team Coaches to help individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and mental illness build coping skills, self-advocacy, and job readiness, while developing social and independent living skills in home and community settings.

The role emphasizes flexibility, crisis stability, teamwork with clinicians, and coordination with families and DDS partners in various settings, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field, plus 5+ years of autism and mental illness experience.
  • Master’s degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to relate to staff and handle crises with stability and flexibility.

  • Establish relationships with persons served, staff, families and other stakeholders to align goals.
  • Build person-centered supportive relationships with individuals served.
  • Help individuals acquire coping skills for anxiety and self-monitoring.
  • Support development of self-advocacy and job readiness skills.
  • Refer to community resources and assist with housing and entitlements.
  • Develop independent living skills including personal hygiene and daily living tasks.
  • Maintain confidential files and up-to-date records (EHR).
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, and team collaborations.

Job Description:Team Coaches will assist individuals in acquiring coping skills for anxiety, help develop self- advocacy, job readiness skills, awareness of public safety and develop tools for planning and executing functioning skills. They work with individuals served to increase interest and fluency in social and community activities and help them development independent living skills including personal hygiene, home maintenance, activities of daily living and other functional skills as assessed.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field with a minimum of five years’ experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorder and significant mental illness, required.Master’s Degree in Human Services or related field will be considered in lieu of years of experience.Driver’s license, acceptable driving history and reliable transportation, required.Previous experience in assessment and treatment planning, preferred.Must be able to relate effectively to other staff members, as well as to provide stability and flexibility in crisis situations.Must possess leadership skills, flexibility, time-management, and effective verbal and written communication skills.Candidates must demonstrate the ability to meet with individuals using multiple modalities including virtual, in person (at the person’s home or community setting).RESPONSIBILITIES:Establish relationships with persons served, staff, families and other stakeholders to develop shared understanding of person’s goals and dreams.Build person centered non-judgmental supportive relationships with individuals served.Assist individuals to acquire coping skills for anxiety, strategies for self-monitoring and escalation as needed.Assist individuals to increase interest and fluency in social and community activities.Assist individuals in developing self- advocacy, job readiness skills, awareness of public safety and develop tools for planning and executive functioning skills.Refer to community resources such as outpatient counseling and psychiatry.
